Getting the Job Done: Meet Nigel Smith, Warehouse Supervisor

Joined: October 2002

Twenty years ago, Nigel started working at General Tools, packing shipments, and learning the business. Today, he’s proud to be the company’s Warehouse Supervisor.

Along the way, Nigel has not only become adept at his job, but he’s also made long-term friendships with his colleagues.

“My mentor was John Yee, who’s now the Import and Facility Manager,” he says. “Back when I started, John taught me a lot of things I needed to know. I have many good memories of all the people I’ve worked with, including the employees who have left the company. After we left New York about five years ago, some people retired. But I’ve stayed in touch with quite a few.”

Nigel enjoys the pace in the warehouse, and he especially likes being around the products GT carries.

“I just love tools,” he says. “And I always find some projects to do around the warehouse, such as fixing up whatever needs doing. We had a contractor using one of our tools recently to fix our printer. He used our 14-piece Quad Saw and Screwdriver set. It’s handy to have so many tools in one.”

Nigel appreciates how each work day offers new things to do. “General Tools is a really fun place to work,” he says. “We all keep busy, and we’re always moving and doing something, but it’s never stressful. Most of all, the people here are all very nice. That makes everything even better.”
